Gee, I beg to differ with the general drift here. I'm still kind of in love
with WFF. Granted, they are expensive and none too adventurous but I always
get what I order--which is often not the case with the more experimental
places like Heronswood. The local nurseries here, north of New York City,
often run out of standard-issue plants, and when I'm committed to one plant
in a particular place I know I can count on WFF. Also, since WFF is colder
than where I live I feel safer ordering from them than spots that are warmer
than me--though I do that, too, of course. I, too, was thinking of that
Michael Pollan essay--a quite witty comparison of the attitudes of Wayside
and WFF, particularly as expressed in their photos. A good read for anyone
who wants to track it down...
