Oh we still like WFF and would not lump them in with Wayside, although
both put out lovely catalogs. WFF put out loads of information, very
educational, and is a fun place to visit. We always get their catalog
every season and always recommend to our friends to have a copy around.
They offer a wide selection of the current popular plants although short
on more select specimen plants, not a place to go to fill out your
collection or new introductions. WFF is a good place for the novice
gardener or one with a busy schedule with not much time to research. My
sister in-law lives in Boston, has six kids, is a critical care nurse
along with working in her husbands dental office and loves gardening, WFF
is ideal for her. She subscribes to Horticulture, Greenscenes, and Garden
Gate, and is lucky to have the time to thumb thru them so when see sees a
picture of a plant she likes she can try to match it up with one in WFF.
She basically gardens by pictures and there really is nothing wrong with
this. She would be lost with a Niche Gardens, Heronwood, or Wrenwood
catalog but then her garden contains almost if not every plant of the
year selection. I do not know what she would do if she had to select from
twenty varieties of pulmonarias, much less if she did not have pictures
to go by. But this works for her and others and this is all that matters.
