South Creek Nursery Palmyra NY 14522

Greetings all,
Has anyone had any experience (good or bad) with the above nursery I
found while surfing the net? They feature some nice recent introductions
at very nice prices (esp. if you prepay early.) Their caveat is WARNING
hosta babies, matured, establisted anywhere from 3wks. to 8 mos. It sounds
much like a source I used last year, #1 Hosta Source (Rick Van Otgehem)
with which I was generally satisfied (all survived through last fall).
However with about half the plants from Rick, he might just as well not
have bothered sticking the liners in 2" pots and shipping all that pot and
soil through the mail. When I got them I had to dump the pot and soak the
solid 1"X1" cube of root mass in water and carefully tease the roots apart
and spred out (Some 4"in all directions) before planting. Unless this is
done immediately upon receipt from the tissue culture lab these root-bound
plants don't have a chance and "established" is meaningless at best, or
even misleading. I realize there might not have been enough time with
these babies to determine if all are true to form. However, if the price
is right I will take that chance.
     What do others think?
