Hank,
My suggestion is to look for Carexes instead of grasses. Most of them do
better in light to heavy shade. There is one called Carex muskimumensis
(sp?) that is a super looking striped native. I know it will grow in zone
5 and would be surprised if it didn't grow in zone 4. Someone please
correct me if I'm wrong! C. siderostica is very nice too.

Can anyone help me with suggestions for grasses that can be successfully
grown in light shade (or heavy shade) in my zone 4 garden? Has anyone had
success with any of the grasses that are listed as zone 5? > > Hank
