Lowe's and Home Depot are owned by the same company.
Sorry but that's incorrect. As a stockholder and employee, I receive
shareholder and majority ownership information and, while the companies may
act in similar ways, they are two separate companies.
As far as throwing out plants and/or reducing the price, that is up to the
store manager. Some will make a deal and some will not unless the plants are
a guaranteed sale through the vendor. Some suppliers will guarantee that all
of their plants will sell at full retail price and will credit the store
with their purchase price if the plant cannot be sold. In that case the
plant has to be thrown out. Much more interesting are the suppliers that
will credit you with the difference if the purchase price is lower than
retail. There are not many of these but its really fun to mark something
down to a ridiculous price guess how many seconds before the last one is
gone. For suppliers that do not offer credit (about 1/2) whether to mark
down the item or not is a decision made by the store manager.
