Hello all,
I just joined this list and was delighted to 'hear' a discussion on wind
chills and temp re plants. I live in Zone 3 in the far White Mts. of NH and
all I know is that I not only feel colder when wind blows up here (and it
BLOWS) = wind chill.
We go down regularly to temps at -40 F (or slightly below that - brrrr) but my
plants are covered with that grand white mulch from the sky all winter so the
dastardly wind doesn't have much effect on them.
Our climate is called a temperate rain forest and our soil tends to be acidic
altho' we moved to new property and it was tested at slightly more neutral but
still on the acid side. Our old property, 30 miles away was 5.7 pH.
OK, enuf for me - I am in love with hostas which is why I latched onto this
list. I own and manage a mailing list on Siberian irises and was looking for a
new home for my list which is why I found you. Does Topica have anything to do
with this list? You were listed there?
Confused and cold today altho' it is now 1 degree F which signals a heat wave
for us. Zone 5 - 7 are only in my dreams but you have the freeze, thaw, freeze
cycle which can cause havoc in gardens whereas we just freeze.
