Re: hellebores

Helleborus foetidus has very cute leaves and I have tried to grow it.
Several times. Unsuccessfully. It thrives for a bit, then dies. My other
hellebores (all hybrids from various sources) have thriven for years under
the same growing conditions. I don't know what I'm doing wrong with
foetidus but my friends tell me they have the same problem; it is just
difficult. But I would gladly try any hellebore--and do! (Where do you
procure H. odorus?)

They say that foetidus has a feathery appearance which I thought would contrast nicely with large hosta leaves. The pure white flowers of niger also sound nice, unless they face downard under the leaves where they can't be seen anyway.....do they?
