Re: [PRIMROSES] PUTTING YOUR TREE TO BED/COLUMBUS/NEW YEAR

Dan,

You brought up another potential problem. I was planning to start watering my
hostas (which are under the oaks) ALOT MORE because of what I've been reading
on either this or the AHS robin (or both); that they need lots of water to
grow faster and better. But from what you just wrote about "large changes in
the amount of water", it sounds like my oaks might not like it...how much is
a "large change"? If 1" of water per week is good for avg. draining garden
soil, then should hostas get 2" per week in same soil? and would this
doubling of water be too much for the oak's roots?

Thanks again,

p.s. I can't tell you how much I value the gardening round robins as sources
of great info and being able to hear about other's experiences in gardening.
I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their input. (Can you
tell I'm new to this sort of thing and still in a state of awe :-) ?) It's
like having a direct link to a huge database of gardening data, plus
personalities! What could be better? It sure would be fun if we could see
each other in these computers too. I think the new year has made me a little
sappy. ;-}
