Hi Hank,

I tried to reply to your post at plants@hootowlhollow.com and my reply was
returned to me so I'm going this route instead. I don't understand why I
couldn't send to you when I only hit the reply button,,,I think,,,now I'm
starting to doubt myself.

Hello Hank,

I got into your web page just fine. Looks good. I see that you do have lots
of Acer. I would like a catalogue. How much are they? I copied part of your
catalogue here:

"We offer a variety of Acer as accents to the shade and conifer gardens. For
those of you Zone 6a or lower who are timid about using Acer palmatum, we
offer a number of Acer that can go as low as Zone 4, and add just as much
grace and charm as A. palmatum. These cultivars (safe at zone 6-8) are on
their own roots, and should the top be lost to wind, weather or the neighbors
dog, they will easily re-establish. "

Does this mean that any of the Acer you sell (besides A. palmatum) are safe
here in zone 4? Are any small enough to ship? I'm not looking at your online
catalogue right now so I don't remember if it included how tall and wide the
shrubs will get. Does your catalogue have pictures as I would like to see
what they look like?

Thanks for your help,
Cindy Johnson
White Bear Lake, MN
zone 4a

p.s. Sorry to hear about your near death experience in White Bear Lake. The
winds can get pretty raw but most of the time it's not so bad. Fortunately
parts of our yard are sheltered from winds because our house is set into a
hill with a walkout basement that faces northEAST.

p.p.s. Regarding growing A. palmatum in pots. I think they would still freeze
in our attached, but unheated garage and our basement is no colder than 65
deg. Could the garage still work if they didn't freeze too solid for too
long?
