I can't answer your question about the names. I do grow Asphodeline lutea
though. Never have heard it referred to as bog asphodel. The requirements
are for well drained soil for this Mediterranean plant. The common name
doesn't sound right for this plant. I have heard common names for it as
Jacob's Rod, King's Spear and Yellow Asphodel though. Easy to start from
seed, and I grow it in partial shade and full sun. Hope someone can clear up
the Narthecium question for you. I couldn't find it in any of my reference
material.
