Greetings,
I volunteered to coordinate a web site for the ShadeGardens list. The site
was just "opened" Mon. afternoon, and not much has been done, actually it's
mostly just a generic page that was automatically generated by the site
provider.
At any rate, the URL is
http://www.geocities.com/PicketFence/1513
Hope to get started "constructing" ASAP, but I need some content. I envision
the web page as a point where newcomers can be directed and listmembers can
post information that others wish to have handy to refer to again and again.
I'd like this to be an effort of the shadegardens list, so anyone who wishes
to contribute information or pictures is welcome. Unfortunately, I don't
have access to a scanner or image conversion software, so any pictures will
need to be in a "gif" format so that I can use them directly on the web page.

Content of Web Page
===================
I've listed some ideas just to get started. Of course, I'm open to
suggestions...
1. Information about ShadeGardens
--how to join the ShadeGardens discussion list.
--how to "search" the archives of ShadeGardens
--brief history of how the list got started and scope of discussions.
2. Definite of "shade" and examples of the various degrees of shade.
The Shady Oaks Nursery catalog has a section on shade tolerance that I
found very useful. Perhaps we can contact them for permission to
have that information on our web site???
3. Information on specific plants--seed germination, vegetative propagation,
light requirements, soil requirements, dormancy requirements, anecdotal
pieces about growing in garden, suggested companion plants. Other??
4. Lists of suggested plant materials for various situations
Vines for the shade, groundcovers, plants for deep shade, others????
5. Information about specialty gardens
Bogs, native woodland plants, primrose, rock gardening, bulbs in shade,
others????
6. "How To" section
Preparing beds for under trees, best way to divide hosta, creating
a bog, growing from seed, growing Hosta in zone 9/10, others????
7. List members with nurseries can submit information or, if they already
have a web page, provide a link, instead of sending it to the list
everytime someone new asks for it.
8. Resources
Books, magazines, newsletters, others???
9. Links
Nurseries on the web that sell shade plants
Member's web pages
Various plant society web pages
And of course the more photos of plants, the better.
