Could you tell us approx. how much direct sunlight your thalictrum varieties
get.Do all of them have to be staked or supported in some way?

Hi Clyde, and everyone else too,

First, Cornus canadensis is a native in Wisconsin, but seems to be happiest
in more acid soil....it's also called the bunchberry. It's quite
attractive...but I think it would depend on where you live....zone 5 can be
very hot in the summer, and I think Cornus canadensis might pack up and go
home. It doesn't even grow particularly well in the southern part of Wis.

Second, Krossa Regal is a hybrid....and a lovely hosta at that.

Third, there are tons of wonderful thalictrums, and I don't have to stake
any of them. The ones that I grow vary in siting from full sun to just about
full shade...though none are in dense shade.

Thalictrum kusiana-dwarf with light pink puffs...about 3 or 4 inches
tall...spreads

Thalictrum coreanum -another dwarf...light pink puffs...blooms all summer in
3/4 day of shade....cute ground cover. About 4-5" tall

Thalictrum glaucum var. flava-I have this in full sun, since plants that
have glaucus foliage like more sun. It has very bluish leaves and a soft
yellow spray of flowers. One of the tallest thalictrums that I grow....about
6 feet.
Very upright.

Thalictrum aquilegiafolium-lovely lavender puffs of flowers in June. One is
in sun for most of the day, and another gets 2/3 day of shade. Very upright.
It's about 4-4 1/2 feet tall. The one in the shade is shorter.

Thalictrum rochebrianum-totally different flower on this one....little
lavender-purple bells with a yellow spot....very airy...this one is in shade
until about 5 in the afternoon. About 4-5 feet tall.

Thalictrum acteafolium-this looks just like aquilegiafolium, but it blooms
in August-September, and is fairly short...only about 2 feet tall.

Thalictrum minus-small...about 1 1/2-2 feet tall; flowers are
inconsequental....grows in 3/4 shade.

Thalictrum dipterocarpum alba -This is short too...only about 2-2 1/2 feet
tall, but oh is it beautiful!! It has pure white bells that gently float on
the breeze.

Hope that helps describe them....they really are elegant plants. Jean B,
