[SHADEGARDENS] Hello - I'm new too

Hello everyone,

My name is Amber and I love gardening. I'm newly married and my husband and I
recently purchased a house. I've grown up gardening at my parents house -- with
a variety of gardens in sun, partial sun, and light shade. Now, my backyard is
a beautiful forest -- with about eight feet of grass before a retaining wall to
the forest. This is a new challenge to me and was glad to see this list on
shade gardening.

I do love hostas and soloman's seal. I've also had great luck with impatients.
I've been horrible with some others and hope that I can learn how I can be
better. We purchased our house in late summer and the plants were on the
downturn -- I missed a lot. The woman who did own our house died but I hear she
was quite a gardener so I'm anxious for spring to see what turns up. I'm hoping
for some lillies out back -- if not I'll be planting them as soon as I can.

A post a few days ago about grass vs. moss interested me as we have an area of
our yard that I suspect will be very difficult for grass. I've been thinking of
trying a moss.

Are there any good climbers that not only survive but thrive in shade? One side
of the house looks like it needs something as there are not many windows -- it
is in total shade on the north side of the house.

Thanks for any suggestions.
