[SHADEGARDENS] Welcome / Gene Bush replies

Hello Sherryl & Shadelovers,
Thank you for the warm welcome to the shade gardens list.
My garden is primarily shade and is located on the north side of a
hill here in Southern Indiana. Basic outline resembles a horseshoe with
the open end and gate at the bottom of the hill. The inside of the shoe
is on something approximating three terraced levels connected by
pathways and bridges. The garden is about 13 years old now and where I
taught myself to garden. It is now Munchkin Place Garden.
I am more of a collector than anything else, always on the search
for the next plant- and a place to put it in the garden. I begin with
what grows here locally in our woods and then, if successful, begin
reaching outward to find related species on the Eastern section, then
West of the US. From there it is on to Europe, Asia, Japan, etc. Some of
the genus I especially enjoy are Polygonatum, Arisaema, Dodecatheon,
Trilliums, Iris, Gentians to name a few. I also happen to have a love
for Peony, Hellebore and Tricyrtis. Oh, and don't forget the Hosta.
The garden grew into a nursery business that is about 4 years old
now. The inventory specializes in - surprise- native and non-native
woodland, rare and unusual shade perennials. There is a short listing, a
full descriptive catalog, web site and sales & display area. To hold any
commercial references to a minimum, you can check out the nursery off
the list. The 98 catalog will be up on site the last of January, first
of February. Web site is being completely rewritten and organized right
now, so if you have any problems, please let me hear from you.
Don't forget to have a good time today at whatever you choose,
Gene Bush Southern Indiana Zone 6a
