Hi All:
Milorganite has not worked for me. I think the deer use it for relish
in this area. They are a real scourge and have had a very deleterious
effect on the forest, preventing the re-growth of many tree species.
Cruel as it may seem, I would like to see a major "crash" in their
population to permit the natural vegetation (and our gardens) to
recover. I think about 10 years would do it. I'd vote for the
reintroduction of major natural predators here in the Catskills - fox
and coyotes just don't seem able to handle the job. There is not a
plant on the "forbidden" list that deer have not either scarfed down or
a least ruined. I have even had my daffodils sampled. My area for
gardening is enclosed by an 8 to 10 foot fence and patrolled by a large
dog! Are we besieged - you bet!.
