Hello gardeners.
I'm not new, but just stopped PRIMROSE before going on vacation and have
come back to SHADEGARDENS.
Since I didn't give a Bio on myself before in PRIMROSE, I thought I should
do so now.(no more vac. for awhile)
I live 42 miles south of Kansas City, Missouri in a small town of 357
people. I moved from close to the city out to the booneys with alot of
gardening room. My husband and I were both raised on farms so we said that
when the kids were gone, we would go back to a farm. We don't farm, just
garden. But that's more work than I ever dreamed because the perennial garden
just keeps spreading. But isn't that why we DREAM & WISH?
I have 1500 variety of bearded Iris and sell these to the locals. I have
many different perennials that do well in my zone 5/6. We live on 20 acres
with about 5 acres in trees so we have plenty of room for shade and sun
plants. The trees around the house that were planted when the house was
finished, have since grow up and instead of a sunny frontyard, I now have alot
of shade too.
My backyard is mostly shady and we haven't done alot to it. I do have a few
plants close to the house but that's about all...so guess where the gardening
will be done now. I have started collecting Hostas and have 115 cultivars
right now. I hope one day to start selling Hostas along with my Iris.
I'm happy that we have this listserv so I can learn more about shade
gardening because I will have to start getting some companion plants for all
the Hostas I have. I need alot of advise on plants, shrubs and trees. ANY info
or advice will be received with open ears and heart.
Oh yes, I would like to add one little thing. I'm planning alot of gardens
for this Spring and need alot of plants. SO....anyone out there who would like
to get rid of some of their shade plants or share them...or even sell
them....PLEASE let me know. I'm in zone 5 going into 6 so remember me when
you're heading to the compost with those cuttings and plants. I will be glad
to pay postage.
Thank you for allowing me to join in with you.

P.S. My great grandmother (from Poland) told me that to say,"Thank you", for a
plant given to me, would bring bad luck on the givers garden..so, please
understand when I don't say, "Thank you", enough. I will say "Happy Gardening"
to all instead.
