Houttuynia is most invasive in a moist sunny location. My experience in a
shaded location is that Houttuynia is much more restrained, and is quite
controllable. My only disappointment is that the leaf variegation is not
as pronounced in a shady location. So, if you have it planted in a shady
location, I'd give it a chance and just keep an eye on it.
