Hi, Alex. You should offer that plant for sale - I, for one, would have to
buy it. OK: I have a plant that I bought as Persicaria filiformis
'Painter's Palette', syn. Polygonum something-or-other. It reaches around
12-15" adult height, has somewhat heart-shaped leaves 2" across at widest
span, gets a little leggy by summer's end, has a flower spike, but the
blossoms are so tiny as to be invisible. The foliage is medium green
Splashed with cream and pink; in some spots the pink crosses green
creating purple. It is moderately invasive, apparently from seedlings
rather than sprouting from the roots (I am using Lysimachia clethroides as
the comparator for 'highly invasive'). Seeds will sprout in lawn. The
stem becomes woody as it ages, though new growth is herbaceous, but each
year the roots only survive winter - the woody stem dies along with the
rest of the top growth. Is this the same as Tovara?
Speaking of highly invasive: Butch, try the dwarf horsetail in your bog (if
you are willing to do some weeding). It is an unusual and prolific plant.
Planted next to the bog, rather than in it, it will be moderately invasive.
In the bog, it makes L. clethroides look chicken.
