Hello Shade Gardeners.
My wife and I do our shade gardening within the small yard of our
condominium townhouse. We belong to both the AHS and the New England
Hosta Society (NEHS). Most of our hostas are those that are are common
to the trade, but we take good care of them. Since we are among only
about three or four gardeners in our 324 unit condominium who would
recognize a registered hosta by name or appearence, we are trying to
introduce our neighbors to this plant. I have a semi-retired neighbor
who is, I'll bet, drooling over Paul Aden's 'The Hosta Book' as I
write. He used to work for a plant nursery on the Cape and has a very
limited knowledge of hostas. We are trying to grow some hosta seed-
lings this winter. After one-and-a-half weeks there is not a lot to
report. The NEHS is going to have a cut-leaf show in June. We hope to
enter several of our plants in this show at Tower Hill, Boylston.
We have above-average luck with H. 'Great Expectations' and received
recognition of this when we were awarded an informal prize in an
informal cut-leaf show in early Fall. Well, nice to meet you!
