It is with some pleasure that I wish to share with gardening friends the
appearance of two eyes of Hosta 'Otome No Ka' (in a watermatic pot)
after a long (more than 8 weeks) dormancy on the enclosed portch here
...where temperatures have hovered between 32F and 40F. This cultivar
from Japan [the Fragrant Maiden Hosta] is said to be day blooming with
a fragrant purple flower. Purchased (by mail) late last season, it remains
to be seen how she fares this season...so far so good. She will be in a
south window during this winter season and moved to a northeast site
with full morning sun once the weather allows. Potted up in Southland
Professional Growers Medium and the watermatic pot (from Australia)
she should be a happy plant for the season...hope she blooms. Soon as
weather allows I will similarly pot up a hosta plantaginea 'Aphrodite' in
hopes of bloom this coming season.
