Re: [SHADEGARDENS] Nurseries

It seems to me that the object is to grow plants in conditions where they
flurish. Be shade loving or not, it is a fact that hosta are not sun loving.
Hosta need light not sun. In my garden even the most sun tolerant will not
last one season even if in only a half day sun. I realize that conditions
here are a bit harsh but all of this discussion about hostas not being shade
loving seems to be immaterial. Even George admits that in the native
conditions the plants grow in sun in the spring but are shaded by grass and
weeds as the season progresses. Since most of us do not wish our gardens in
this condition, don' you think we need shade? From slides that George took in
Japan, I have seen places where the plant was barely visible. Therefore it
seems safe to assume that they do enjoy being shaded.
