Re: [SHADEGARDENS] LoveTruth&AllThat

Dear Paul (Aden) and Sombreros,

Perhaps since you have brought up the subject of truth, Paul and you say you
have mastered the art of silence I would ask that you have a small relapse
from your conviction and tell us something about the names of your hostas.
In the last few postings many have praised your Hosta 'Fragrant Bouquet'.
Since I have never had the money to buy it my experience with fragrant
hostas is that the only one that can compete with the intensity of a lily is
Hosta plantaginea. What is your opinion on this? Also the whiteness of the
flowers in late afternoon suggests that there might be some sort of nature's
optical brightener coming to play as the whiteness suggests partial
fluorescence. Is there any other hosta with such a white flower?

I fondly remember asking you in a hotel corridor of some long past hosta
convention why Hosta 'Invincible' was called that. I remember that you said,
"I named her after my mother-in-law who was just as indistructible." True or
not I tell this story when visitors to my garden point to the shiny dark
green hosta with the (mildly) fragrant flowers.

Can you remember and chose to tell us how you came to name some of your
other hostas?

Paul you bring up the numerical occurrences of love and truth in the
internet. A passing glance at Schmid's (sorry) The Genus Hosta, informs me
that 100% of the hosta names that begin with love are yours. So what's the
truth behind the name of the ever delightful and wonderful Hosta 'Love Pat"?
