While old P. saccharata from seed stands the summers well here, as does
'Sissinghurst White,' rubra cultivars have not made it.  Modern hybrids
like 'Spilled Milk' and 'Excalibur' also seem to weaken substantially in
the heat particularly if conditions are dry.  I grow them under
high-crowned pines with a dogwood understory.  There is very good air
circulation and mildew is never a problem.  Thus I suspect that some
Pulmonarias are not "summer hardy."
