Re: [SG] pulmonaria source/ Munchkin Nursery

Hello Claire & All,
At your request here is a cut and past from the Pulmonaria section of my
99 catalog. (Which is not up on the web site as yet and will not be in the
mail until the end of January the way it looks now) These happen to be my
favorites thus far. Others in the garden are being watched for a while
before adding to the catalog. One each would give you a nice colorful
display and a good arrangement with companions is my thinking.
I am using several Hechura, Trilliums, Wild Sweet William, Wood Poppy,
deciduous Azaleas, Oak Leaf Hydrangea, Creeping Woodland Phlox and
Delphinium Tricorne in white and lavender-purple. There are many other
things surrounding the area as well.
*Pulmonaria angustifolia Lungwort -Johnson's Blue Z 4 - part shade
$ 8.00 Deep green hairy leaves that reach only about four to six inches
in height forming an open clump. The tubular blooms are a sky blue and do
not change color as with many of the Pulmonarias. Wonderful little
restrained ground cover. Begins blooming in mid-March and lasts into May.

*Pulmonaria longifolia Lungwort -Bertram Anderson Z 4 - part shade
$ 8.00 Foliage is long and narrow forming an arched spray of green
spotted with silver-white reaching about twelve inches in height. Blooms
are blue and make a good display from March through the last of May. Use
Phlox stolonifera to weave in and out of several clumps of this Lungwort .
Mildew resistant.

*Pulmonaria longifolia Lungwort – cevennensis Z 4 - part shade
$ 9.00 Longer more narrow leaves than Bertram and more heavily spotted.
Both Bertram and this selection are resistant to powdery mildew. Easily
grown in decent organic soil with blooms in steel-blue. New to catalogs and
sure to become a favorite with its arching habit and good display of blooms
from March through May.

*Pulmonaria rubra Lungwort – Redstart Z 3 – 9 part shade
$ 8.00 This selection has been around for a while now in catalogs and
European gardens. A proven performer. Foliage reaches about twelve inches
in height and the blooms are red. Showy against the mint green of the
leaves. Blooms from march through May.
