Re: [SG] ornamental grasses, Carex

Connie,

I grow M. s. gracillimus and it does seed around fairly freely. In fact,
since I neglected to do the necessary weeding of seedlings year before
last, I now have a fair quantity of plants in places I really don't want
them. Will give me something to do with my "spare" time this season ;-)

I find the Miscanthus really prefers all the sun you can give it, but will
grow, in my zone, in about 4 hours of direct sun or very light shade. Too
much shade causes them to be really floppy and sort of fade away after a
while.

I wonder if the tendency to seed around is climate related? Anybody know?

On second thoughts...anybody want some? Let me know, I'll be happy to send
for reimbursement of shipping. Write me privately so as not to clutter up
the list. While I'm thinking about it, I also have seed for Pennisetum
'Moudrey' (another lovely grass that will do well in part sun, at least in
my zone, but does seed around) if anybody wants it. This is the one with
the nearly black bottle brush blooms very late in the season. I imagine
that in northern zones it really would need full sun, but it does very well
for me in a couple hours of mid day or late afternoon sun and lightish
shade the rest of the day.
