Most maps show us in Zone 4. As for lowest temperatures, we go down to
-15 degrees once or twice most winters, rarely lower than that. There
is usually sufficient snow cover when those low temperatures occur. Our
temperatures track pretty closely to those recorded at O'Hare.
We are about 20 miles west of Lake Michigan (on a direct line from
Highland Park). We do, of course, have our own mini-climate created by
the fact that we have a stream running by (more like a creek) which is
lined with brook willows and other trees of similar size and have some
very large silver maples throughout the two acre lot, so some protection
is available
Does that info make it easier to more definitively define the zone we
are in?
And thanks for your help
