Re: [SG] Maidenhair Fern

Hello Michael,
I see where you have had many other replies to this one. I obtained my
Maidenhair Fern from a nursery some years ago. It is planted on a small
cliff face in some rock. Soil is rich, but quite shallow as the fern is on
the edge. It was planted while dormant as I prefer to do with most ferns
and wildflowers. When planting ferns I always mulch with chopped leaves and
do not allow it to dry out the first year. After that they are on their
own, including out hot and dry. After all they go through this in the wild
here.
While the rhizome is shallow those little wiry roots get down and under
the rocks for moisture and protection from the heat. My clump is not large,
but it does make a nice show of about 2 feet in diameter after some years.
