Saruma Henryii

Hi Cindy---Betty Peterson was generous to give me a piece of her SH last
year. I have it planted in full shade in my woodlands garden area. It has
done wonderfully from the very beginning. My soil has a PH of 7.0-7.1.
with very good drainage. It gets 1 to 1.5 inches of water a week. In April
I gave the plant about a tablespoon of slow release fertilizer. The plant
had a very nice display of its yellow flowers for about 4 weeks beginning in
late April. Another flush of flowers began a few days ago. The plant has
increased nicely and I expect to be able to divide it later this summer. It
is currently about 16" H by 30" W. The heart shaped leaves have a soft
quality to them that makes the plant one of my best for that amount of
shade. It produces quite a few seeds and is expected to self sow but I have
planted some in hopes of speeding up the process. Tony Avent's Plant
Delights Nursery lists the plant as zone 5-8 at least and sells it for
$20.00.
