By coincidence, I was in a nursery just last week in North Carolina(one
of the benefits of having grandchildren there to visit) and found the
lady fern Ursula's Red which I did not have. I looked around to find
the best plant(which I have been known to do) and lo, and behold, there
were two sections of newly potted ferns and both of them were labeled as
Ursula's Red but only 1 section really had any red in the stem. I
commented on this at the counter but there was no comment from the
counter person. Since I had been looking for this fern and knew it
should have red I chose the reddest one but would other people? The
wholesaler send out x number of ferns and x number of labels but only
the true lover of all ferns(and other plants) will look closely at the
fern or other plant and know the description to look for. Take it back
to the nursery or not? Depends on how much you like the fern. And then
there is the possibility of finding a totally new fern in a batch of
seedlings. Oh, the joy of finding something new.
