Re: Herb farm visit

Gene, pray tell where, in northern IN, was this herb farm that you
visited? I think I might like to go there. Late summer is a good time for
herbs.

Your report brings back memories of our visit to Caprilands, in CT. years
ago when the owner, Adelma Grenier Simmons, was still alive. I treasure my
autographed copy of her book HERB GARDENING IN FIVE SEASONS which I bought
that day. I believe Simmons was the first to develop, back in the 40s, the
concept of an herb farm/nursery/tea room/gift shop which I guess is pretty
universal now. Crafts involving dried flowers were a specialty - wreaths
etc. - healing and cooking with herbs were others, and she wrote many
books. I hope that she is still remembered, as she was such an influence
on that segment of the horticultural profession.

Has anyone visited Caprilands recently? I'm wondering if it is still an
ongoing concern, and who is in charge, and what kind of changes if any
have been made. By the way, Simmons was a pretty good advertisement for
living with herbs, as she had a very active old age and must have been
close to 100 when she died.
