I have been growing 'Painter's Palette' for 6-7 years. I'd call it
vigorous, but not invasive. (Ah 'vigorous' that favorite of nursery
catalog writers)
Vigorous: it spreads slowly by a creeping rhizome and spreads more quickly
by seeds- which practice catch and carry dispersal by clinging to hair,
clothing, fur etc. and sprouting in some wayward places.
Not invasive: My experience is that a Tovara pulled is a Tovara dead.
Around here, anyway, it hasn't exhibited any tendency to resprout from
roots, making it much tamer than its knotweed cousins. As for the
seedlings, a pass with a hoe seems to be sufficient.
Philosophically speaking, can a plant be considered invasive if it is grown
within its native range? (NH west to MN, south to Fl and TX)
