All Kidding aside, and while it's true that Home Depot will refund losses as
you say, they aren't really making the kind of money that you describe.
There are six Home Depots around us (within 25 miles) and the one in
Bridgeport CT.  lost $700,000. the year before last, and last year more than
$1,500,000. from theft, and write-offs. People in that area seem to feel that
if they need a repair part for a faucet (for example) they disassemble the
unit and take what they want, leaving the rest behind, which has to be
written off.  Other stuff just walks out the door.  This year's figures show
a steady increase.
The other stores nearby aren't doing that badly, but it's almost certain that
this store will have to close.
They realize now that this was a bad location to put one of their stores.
I'm not speaking poorly of Bridgeport in general, just the specific
location...
