In my KS garden I planted Astilboides tabularis in Aug.  It survived the winter fine.  
Gunnera!!!!  I saw my first fullly grown Gunnera in Portland last month.  I fell in love at first sight.  It seems to me that overwintering in the garage should be possible.  The question is, how much moisture does the dormant plant need?
Call your county Extension Office about the fungus.
