If it were me I would dig up the plant, give it a nice pot and water in well.
Then I would place it under a shade tree to rest until fall. Come fall I would
plant and mulch.... in open shade.
I get tags on plants all the time that state sun and if you followed that
recommendation here they would fry. Some of this simply depends upon where you
garden. You can pretty much grow Hosta in full sun if you are in England, I am
told. Here they begin to cook in mid July and are giving up the ghost by August.
There is always someone trying to sell more hosta by telling people to plant them
in full sun if they are this color or that color, but for me, at least, they do
not like that.
My palace purple are in bloom now and have been for about a week or so. Have
them in plenty of light, but no direct sun for any length of time. mulched and in
decent soil. We do keep them watered during hot dry spells. hummers love the
bloom, so we like to keep these close to the patio.
