Texas Hostas

Hi, Bob. When I lived in Texas, I was in the central region, about 15 miles
from Temple. It is extremely humid in the summer, but the wind at night is dry,
and the clouds seem to usually move to the east without releasing any rain. The
natural landscape consists of bare, rocky soil with tufts of prairie grass here
and there, along with widely-seperated tough shrubs and an occasional small
tree. The cities are green and have large trees, thanks to human intervention.
Every few years, there is a serious drought, where the streams dry up and
actual desert conditions prevail. Contrast this to eastern Texas, lush with
greenery, and southern Texas, with its large rivers and trees. You can see why
I had to pamper hostas whereas people living in the same zone, but with more
rainfall, did not. Just a different microclimate.
