Re: fern 'starter' questions


Hmmm....well, never done fern cuttings before - maybe Gene knows for
sure what to do.  But, if they were mine, I'd pot them up in some
highly organic, fast draining compost containing, if possible, some
leaf mould and some rotted wood chips and, depending on how long
they've been in baggies, possibly bag them up for a bit after the
potting just to keep the humidity high around them...you'd have to
use some judgment here as you will need to wean them from baggies at
some point - may need to be done gradually so they don't go into
shock and go limp on you.  Have no idea what ferns these are and
different ones have different needs as to soil, moisture and light,
but best guess is keep them in a shady spot..not dank, but not direct
sun..and let them make some root growth.  They should put out a new
frond or two once they get established, but, again depending on the
species, may not.  As long as the frond they have stays green and
turgid, you can assume they are alive and growing roots.
