Re: Cimicifuga help??

Over the years we also have had a few sick and slowly dying cimicigugas. If
faced with a sick plant I usually opt to get to know better before its gone.
Get the shovel and dig it up. Wash the roots clean of soil. You may find
small parts of the plant are sound; small new shoots are what I look for but
there can be larger pieces that look healthy. Ease (or cut) these free from
parent. If the shoots have new roots all the better but even if not you can
still work with them. I might put a weak rooting hormone on the cuts if the
shoots have no roots. Into clean pots with a 50/50 peat moss and pearlite
mix. Water with a fungicide added and into the shade. Keep moist but not too
wet. In a few weeks, with some luck, you may see new growth and you can take
it from there.

When I divided a congested Saruma this spring I cut off, by mistake, three
very small emerging shoots without any roots. After following the above
procedure they all rooted within 4 weeks.

Just keep repeating the mantra "This plant wants to live".
