I had no idea what you all were talking about with the
cimicifuga -- I don't think people grow it much in my area -- so
I went googling, and I found this site which has beautiful
photographs of perrenials:

The people who have put it together have a garden in prairie
Canada, so they have many plants I've never heard of or seen.
But some are ones I've heard of and haven't seen, and the plants
of other regions are interesting too.
Now if there's a similar site for Mediterranean gardening, I'll
be glad to find it too.
