I have to say that I rather like moles and am grateful for their
tunnels aerating my stolid clay "lawn"...about the only aerating it
gets and Lord knows, it needs it. Homely, harmless little creatures
with the most marvelous fur.
They are busy down there munching grubs and, of course, any
earthworms in the way, doing their thing and minding their own
business. Yes, their tunnels can cause problems with plants, but so
can a lot of things...just need to check plants that look a bit off
and make sure they are well seated.
Thing about wildlife is that if your garden provides a suitable
habitat for a creature and you destroy that creature, others of the
same species will come to take their place unless you make the
habitat unsuitable, which, of course, means covering all in concrete
and not gardening or having earth totally devoid of life so there are
no grubs or earthworms..and, of course, no plants as they won't grow
in dead soil.
IMO we need to learn to live with other critters - even blasted deer
- and tolerate a little adverse activity on their part; better than
soaking our gardens in poisons, I think, or killing cruelly.
