was Host care tips--now tree depth of planting

Greetings from flatland Champaign, IL USA . . .

Regarding planting depth of trees, whether Ash or other species, please see
http://www2.champaign.isa-arbor.com/consumer/consumer.html

Specifically, the consumer info bulletin titled, Buying Quality Trees, and
New Tree Planting.

When the depth of planting is determined by the ball elevation, the trunk is
often "too deep" with girdling (trunk strangling) roots growing after
planting, and physiological root collar disorder developing in later years.

Hey, Dan, what do you think about that? Think it is true?

Also, sir, if an ash tree is planted how would you locate the top of the
root
ball in relationship to the surrounding soil, esp. if the soil has a high
clay content.

Thanks, very much. N.
