Hi Narda,
I've heard that soils high in magnesium may make hostas leaves darker. I
don't know if it's true or not.
On the ash tree planting depth.....Greg Smith suggested the best web site I
know of for this information.....I follow International Society of
Arboriculture guidelines in our tree care operation. The I.S.A. supplies the
best and most up to date information available on tree care.

Also, sir, if an ash tree is planted how would you locate the top of the
root
ball in relationship to the surrounding soil, esp. if the soil has a high
clay content.
