Re: hostas nematodes and etc.


Hello Narda,
    When designing a garden you can get stuck on what comes next on
occasion. Say you have 3 of this one of those and 5 of another plant. They
match up fairly decently in bloom and foliage, but there is space remaining
in the bed, and you can not figure out what to put next. In almost all cases
you can put a hosta or two next and it usually works. The later on you can
come up with the next series of plants to go with the originals and leave
the hosta, or dig it out and drop in some new plants you came up with.
See??? Host work ... make it easy to design a garden. Kind of a "one size
fits all" thing.. only it is appearance, not size. So.. I have a tendency to
use too many hosta.
    Every 4 or 5 years I end up digging out several in favor of other
plants.
    I have George's book on shade perennials. Advertised as an
encyclopedia... which it is not. Good book , just used the wrong title ..
.in my opinion.
