Plants only show symptoms if the nematodes do enough damage.  When the host
plant does not supply the nutrition needed to produce many generations of
nematodes there might be no symptoms at all. But in most cases symptoms show up
late in the year and most people think that the plants look that way because its
fall or the dry weather has finally "gotten" the better of the plant. In the
case of spring blooming plants that go dormant in mid to later summer like
Trilliums it is most often mistaken for normal dormancy.
