Try stratifying seed for 90 days at 41F - don't let it dry out; sow as soon as ripe. Why not just plant the berries in a safe patch of ground you can watch and let old Ma Nature do all the stratifying and fussing?
It will take about 4 years from seed to have a plant about 12" - 18" tall; another 3 years and you've got a nice size blooming shrub. Seems to me that once they reach about 3' tall, they don't grow so fast, but, given that my memory is NOT what it used to be, that might just be my brain playing its usual tricks.
