[SG] Who is Joyce Brooks?

Hi Kathy

RE: the daylily JB.....

I think with all information you get, you have to look at the source.
For example, if the grower who said that it did well in shade lived
in the south, you should know that a lot of daylilies in the south
need a little more shade than here in the north. Here in Ma, my
quote to customers is "the more sun, water and fertilizer, the more
flowers"! And of course we need to remember what SHADE is! It is
different for everyone - deep shade? open shade? morning sun?
afternoon sun? less then 6 hours of sun really matters what six hrs
we are talking about! And in deep shade, daylilies will grow, but
not bloom. In open shade and with more fertilizer, they will bloom
in the north. And of course, the other factor is - just how many
blooms will they produce? Under 15 per scape here is just not
acceptable!!! LOL Daylilies NEED sun to do really well.

I do remember seeing slides of JB and thinking it was very beautiful,
but do not own it, as I had not seen it growing in northern gardens.
I tend to think that stock plants - garden plants, will do well if I
have seen it growing in another persons garden locally.

Good luck!
