Yes Fireweed is a beautiful plant, but since no one has yet pointed this
out, I thought I would jump in. -- "growing anywhere and everywhere"
should give you a good hint that it's not called fireWEED for nothing.
Unless you have a large area to naturalize, it can be quite invasive, both
by runners and by the thousands of seed it produces, becoming airborn and
distributed by the wind as soon as it is ripe by a cottony attachment to
the seed. That said, I have planted it myself in the past, a dwarfer form
that was growing at a high elevation in the mountains that I thought might
be good in the garden. It stayed short, but ran like crazy underground.
We're pulling it out. But, there is also a nice white form that is
occasionally seen on seed lists.
