Bobbi-
I know your husband probably wasn't trying to provide more work for you - his
thoughts are probably that you love these plants and probably would love
another - maybe it was just his way of giving support and encouragement for
your gardening efforts. Maybe you should hint to him about another plant you
really like or leave your favorite plant catalog with your favorites
highlighted in the restroom for his next bought of reading. hint, hint hint!
:o)
Getting around some of the labors of the garden is nearly impossible. One
thing you can do to make it "seem" easier is to always carrie your hand
pruners (in fact it's even easier with a hip holster) with you during your
early morning walk around your garden and clip a few of the spent daylily
stalks (at the base of the plant) as you go. Before you know it the spent
stalks will seem like less trouble than they are now. It's still the same
amount of deadheading that was there before but it will seem as though you
are just "checking on the garden" instead of laboring over the "yucky stuff".
Good luck and Happy Gardening
