Here's what my friend reports after I forwarded the recent message to her.
She IS growing them in part shade, and feels that they are not a great
garden plant, but thinks they're good for cutting. Here's what she says:

Thanks for the info on the glads, Bobbi! They really aren't that great
for outside, at least mine are a bit leggy but they don't get full sun,
but they are so beautiful to cut and last very long. They haven't all
bloomed at exactly the same time, so I've had them for cut flowers for a
while. And, as I said, most gave off side shoots from the main stem
that had many nice blooms on, too, as yours was! I thought 10 was too
many (remember, I offered you a couple!) but it's not, but I'd still be
glad to offer you a couple this fall, if you'd like to have them
(especially since it appears from that response that I'm going to get
more soon!).....
