Greetings Gene and the rest of you sweating people:
We're in the 9th day of temperatures in the low to upper 90s and heat
indexes of 103 to 120. It's too hot to even water the perennial and veggie
gardens, but they need it. I was outside early this morning; the
heat/humidity were intolerable at 6:30 a.m. Just looked at the thermometer,
in the shade, on our deck and it read 98 degrees! This was at 6:30 p.m. No
relief in the forecast.
The shade gardens are as thirsty as the gardens in full sun. The garden of
miniature hosta I planted this spring is doing fine, thankfully. Many of the
mature hosta are now receiving afternoon sun after a big old shade tree was
lost in a storm in May. I water them more heavily; they are doing well in
afternoon sun, thanks to regular watering.
I don't want to complaint too much, though. I keep thinking of all the days
of near zero temperatures many of us will have to endure this winter. I'd
rather sweat than shiver.
Everyone have a good week.
