Thanks for the answers-- looks like it's much more likely to be 100
degree heat and slugs. It's good to know there's a plant problem I DON'T
have!
It seems that these plants (I think they're Hosta mediovariegata and H.
undulata) always die back in midsummer, (looking terrible while they're
doing it) and the white and green foliage is replaced by solid green
foliage afterward. Other hostas I have don't do that.
